Pizza Planner for a Sports Team
Team orders are different from office lunches: roster size, coaches and parents, post-game timing, and tournament days all change the plan. Use this page for team-specific planning, then open the full calculator for the final sheet.
Short answer
9
large pizzas for 15 very-hungry teens
Sensible range: 8–10 pizzas
GuestSlice team default: Very hungry (1.3×) + little leftover buffer. Add adults for coaches/parents in the full calculator.
Players only — roster × appetite
| Roster ↓ / Appetite → | Average | Hungry | Very hungry |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 players | 5 | 6 | 6 |
| 12 players | 6 | 7 | 7 |
| 15 players | 7 | 8 | 9 |
| 18 players | 8 | 10 | 11 |
| 20 players | 9 | 11 | 12 |
Teen baseline + appetite multipliers. Prefer Very hungry for post-game; Average if pizza is a light snack after a meal.
What makes a team order different
- Roster vs total mouths. Players are usually teens in the calculator; coaches and parents are adults. Count everyone who will actually eat.
- Timing. Post-game hunger is often higher than a mid-week practice snack. The Very hungry preset is for the post-game case.
- Tournament days. Multiple games mean grazing over hours — consider a leftover buffer or a second smaller pickup rather than one giant cold stack.
- Dietary needs. One gluten-free or vegetarian athlete without an option creates a bigger problem than being one pie short overall.
Players + sideline adults
Illustrative mixes: teens on Very hungry, adults on average appetite, little leftover buffer, large pizzas. Adjust if parents are only picking up kids and not eating.
| Group ↓ / Sides → | Pizza only | Light sides | Full sides |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 players | 7 | 7 | 6 |
| 12 players + 4 coaches | 9 | 8 | 7 |
| 15 players + 8 parents | 13 | 11 | 10 |
| 18 players + 6 adults + 4 siblings | 15 | 13 | 12 |
Note: appetite is Very hungry for the whole mixed group in this table — if adults eat less, model them separately in the full calculator.
Team order checklist
- Confirm game end time and delivery/pickup window with the coach.
- Collect money and dietary restrictions before calling the shop.
- Prefer cheese/pepperoni-heavy splits; add specialty pies only if requested.
- For large roster + parent crowds, ask the restaurant about lead time — often longer than a small family order (confirm locally).
- Print the order sheet from the full calculator so whoever calls has counts, toppings, and notes in one place.
Frequently asked questions
How much pizza does a sports team eat?
GuestSlice’s “Very hungry” setting applies a 1.3× multiplier on top of the teen baseline (4 slices). That is a planning default for post-game crowds — not a measured fact about every athlete. Adjust down if pizza is only a snack beside a full meal.
How many pizzas for a team of 15 players?
For 15 teens on Very hungry with a little leftover buffer and large pizzas, GuestSlice recommends about 9 large pizzas. Add coaches and parents as adults in the full calculator if they are eating too.
What toppings work best for a team?
Keep it simple: lean on cheese and pepperoni, with one or two specialty pies. Collect dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free, allergies) before you call — team orders fail more often on restrictions than on raw quantity.
